Thursday 13 August: I arrived at Bairo Pite Clinic for rounds in the morning and was soon called upon to attend a breech delivery. My first birth in Timor went great, supervising the midwife (fairly new midwife, by Timor standards) as she caught the 5+ pound girl with no problem. This is what happens in Timor: you show up, and something interesting is waiting.
We made a spur of the moment decision that afternoon to go to Los Palos, where we will be living longterm. Took us 6ish hours to get there, the road is fine,as long as you know where the bumps are to slow down, and use your horn around the corners. A beautiful drive, really, along the sea, and then inland, up a bit, to LP, were it does feel abit like the wild, wild west: lush, though, trees, small villages only, not really many other cars, mountains in the distance. We arrived at 8pm, then were fed rice, greens, and small fried fish. In the morn, we scoped out where we might live, and I worked with the clinic staff for an hour +, seeing at least 5 patients with likely tuberculosis, pulmonary and extrapulmonary. There is much work to be done, and god willing, we will get LP set up online and keep you posted.

    Hi Monica!!!
I am so sorry that I never called to say goodbye to you!!! I thought about it a million times but then never did it. How are you? Are you having a crazy time? I have great admiration for your adventures and I miss you greatly in Duluth!!

I am wondering if you have just two seconds to answer a few questions for me. It is about Tae’s immunizations. MMR. THoughts? Also, finishing up DTap which he started in Korea. We declined PVC and Varicella, thoughts? Hep A?

You can email me at muggymoose@gmail.com if you don’t mind. I have no one to counsel with! If you can think of someone, let me know. I am glad to have found this site and will keep track of you now!

    We love you!!!

You paint a beautiful word picture of the country. Include some photographs next time. Do you have a vehicle, or did you borrow one to go to Lospalos? Glad to hear you hope to set up a clinic website. This blog is a great way to keep your friends and family up to date. What did you think of the place where you might live?

How’s the language barriers for you as Lospalos? How are you managing that? Sounds like you’re moving in slowly to your new community–nice.

Tell Hannah hello for me! How is she doing?

Getting the study group organized for fall. We’re going to work closely with MANA core competencies and the written test guidelines for NARM. Also getting our birth ed class ready for the fall/winter season.

Caralee’s plans are in place for her trip to your hemisphere. She’ll be gone oct 1- dec 1. Plane tickets are in her hands. She’s very excited!

Practice is busy, with a sudden gush of g4s and g5s. ?? Things always happen in groups, it seems. Got an insurance reimbursement that finally made all the paperwork worthwhile!

Hot and sticky by Duluth standards. We’re packing up the boys and heading out in the boat for a few hours of fishing and swimming.

Lots of love and thoughts your way. Please email to let me know how you’re doing. And what’s the news with the mail? Let us know when you figure out how we might send you stuff.

Just got back from the Women’s gathering. Lots of rain and cold… and skinny dipping in the lake. Brrrr but SO worth it. Thinking of you and yours often- sending love and smiles from Duluth.

Hello Tom and Monica and Hannah,
Every so often I think, “I’ll pop in on Tom And Monica.” and get so far as an internet search to see what you’re up to. I should call, but that seems to rarely to happen anymore. Life gets busy and just seems to fly. Perhaps its the age, perhaps my age, or perhaps the age of my kids. It is what it is. But imagine my surprise to see you posting blogs from E. Timor. Actually, no surprise. But a welcome sight and I’m glad to see you are living your collective dreams. I’ll enjoy following along. Thanks for the inspiration. I don’t think it will be long before we are following you on your path.
Andrew (Shanna, Henry, Halle, and Jageli)
